A Level II Monitored Sober Living Residence in a historic circa-1880 Victorian home — where structure, creativity, and genuine community create the conditions for lasting recovery.
Atman is the ancient Sanskrit word for the indwelling God — the eternal, luminous essence at the core of every human being.
To realize oneself is to realize one's own Atman — to become acquainted with it, to have a relationship with it. This is something that has long been forgotten in modern life.
Not the roles we play or the stories we carry, but what remains when all of that falls away. The part of you that has never been broken.
Every person who walks through our door carries their Atman within them — whole, worthy, and luminous. Our work is simply to create the conditions for that light to find its way back.
"We don't just help people survive — we create a space where they can genuinely thrive, believe in their own potential, and build lives worth living."
Wraparound services that address the practical, social, and transitional needs of recovery so residents can focus on what matters most.
A safe, structured, drug- and alcohol-free environment with house manager oversight, random screening, and community accountability.
Short-term residential support following hospitalizations or intensive treatment, with coordinated medical follow-up and care monitoring.
Individualized support securing permanent housing — search assistance, landlord advocacy, rental assistance, and post-placement follow-up.
Workshops 2–3× weekly covering financial literacy, job readiness, healthy communication, conflict resolution, and self-care.
Active collaboration with outpatient treatment providers and connection to healthcare, benefits, legal services, and community resources.
Art workshops, ceramics, and hands-on creative experiences designed to support expression, mindfulness, and community connection in recovery.
Our three-phase progressive model builds autonomy while maintaining accountability — preparing residents for successful, lasting independent living.
The wraparound porch is where mornings start and evenings wind down — where residents gather, connect, and begin building the rhythms of a healthy life.
Atman House is a breathtaking circa-1880 Gold Rush-era Victorian at 439 S. Auburn Street in Grass Valley — formerly a beloved Bed & Breakfast, now reimagined as a warm, healing community for adults in recovery.
From the hand-painted wraparound porch to the stained glass windows, clawfoot tub, and the beloved Bottle House — every corner invites residents to slow down, breathe, and begin again.
We believe healing is more than sobriety — it's rediscovering who you are. Our outbuildings are being developed into dedicated creative spaces. The vision is collaborative: residents and community help shape what these spaces become.
A multipurpose space taking shape as an art studio, recreation room, and hands-on workshop. Ideas welcome — woodworking, movement, music, making things with your hands. This space grows with the community it serves.
This iconic local landmark is being reimagined as a creative sanctuary — perhaps a ceramics studio, a woodworking space, or something else entirely. Because the best spaces are designed together. What do you want to build here?
We recognize that addiction takes many forms — including emerging substance use disorders that are often overlooked, undertreated, or simply not talked about in our communities. At Atman House, every resident is seen and every path to recovery is honored. We are committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental environment for individuals struggling with all substances, including those — like ketamine — that few providers are currently addressing or even testing for. No story is too complicated. No path is too unconventional. You belong here.
The private courtyard, fountain garden, and shaded grounds offer peaceful outdoor space for reflection, connection, and healing.
We accept referrals from hospitals, treatment centers, jails, case managers, and self-referrals. Residents must be Medi-Cal eligible with Partnership Health Plan coverage.
If someone doesn't meet our criteria, we're happy to help with referrals to the right level of care.
Whether you're a provider, discharge planner, or someone seeking support for yourself or a loved one — we'd love to hear from you.
